However, there are several ways to type those characters even using a standard keyboard. Which method you should use depends on the type of operating system you have: Windows, Mac, or Linux.

Windows

The Alt-Codes Method

ì - Press Alt + 0236 OR 141
ä - Press Alt + 0228 OR 132
Ì - Press Alt + 0204
Ä - Press Alt + 0196
