Hey William,

Any way the songs can be posted, or maybe emailed? Looks like there's some good stuff in there. kwami 21:34, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

I think posting them might fall under reasonable fair-use, but I am currently hesitant to test that theory. I don't even know who owns Na'vi at this point — Cameron? Fox? Paramount has been twitchy about Klingon, so I'm perhaps over-cautious. Wm.annis 21:42, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
Could you email them to me, then? Certainly phrases can be used.
(BTW, AFAIK you can't copyright a language, or a script, so no-one can own the language and the vocab is fair game, though you can of course copyright the poems themselves.) kwami 22:29, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
I have tried — and failed — to find your email address. Where should I be looking? Wm.annis 01:01, 28 December 2009 (UTC)
If you go to my user or talk page, in the toolbox on the left, under the search box, 2nd from the btm is a link 'e-mail this user'. My email is enabled, so it should work.
Thanks! kwami 07:33, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

Hello¡ You know a language is a living thing and it needs the word love. Don´t bane me. Change it if you like, but keep a word for love. Thank you.

Vocabulary

Hello, William. I wanted to ask you first, but I'd like to change "'Ìnglìsì" to "'ìnglìsì". I know, that it is written capitalized in the ASG, but I have problems to see a language as a proper noun. What do you think? Na'rìghawnu 10:27, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Well, Frommer seems to have no such problem. He uses the upper-case form in his email, too. —Wm.annis 14:29, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Hm, so ok, let's keep it so. But I'm still not convinced that languages belong to the group of proper nouns. Na'rìghawnu 16:10, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Why on earth not? In English we always treat it so. This is Frommer's language, created for a people with no writing system. I'm not sure why we'd dispute his practice. —Wm.annis 16:13, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Ok. As I said: let's keep it. (Besides: Why not? Because in all the linguistic dictionaries I have at hand, they don't count languages to this group. Because the definition of a proper noun is, that it is a specific single thing. But languages can be divised in e.g. the "English" of the medieval times and the modern English, american English, british English and so on. That's why they claim, that languages are not proper nouns. Please don't be mad about me. I'm just wondering.) Na'rìghawnu 16:19, 1 February 2010 (UTC)
Well, there's this tension we have to deal with — Frommer's terms vs. whatever is hip and happening now in linguistics. It seems less confusing in the long run to stick with Frommer's usage unless there's some really overwhelming reason not to. —Wm.annis 16:27, 1 February 2010 (UTC)

Admin

So, Ochristi helped me figure out how to make folks admins. Thought you could use a boost in permissions.

Suffixed adpositions

We have an example of a suffixed adposition going between a noun and its adjective: Fìtrr letsranten from the beginning of Corpus#Earth Day Message. (Same for genitives and relative clauses: Corpus#A Message From Paul has ...fohu a uniltìrantokxit sì kifkeyit Eywa'evengä zamolunge awngar and Aylì'ufa awngeyä 'eylanä...) Kä'eng 17:50, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Wiya! Gone are the days when I know the corpus by heart. Irayo. I'll make some additions to the grammar in a few days. Wm.annis 22:35, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Server side

As a long time MW user, I've had my share of wrestling with it. I would like to help get rid of the /index.php/ if the powers at be are interested. Are you the right person to contact? --Aquatiki 05:02, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Presumably Payoang. It should not be a big deal since he tweaked it on this wiki which is hosted on the same server. ;) — ochristi · 05:37, 23 January 2011 (UTC)

Char Insert

We have the cool extension Char Insert installed (Special:Version). In wiki's I've been on before, people have added commonly needed characters to Mediawiki:Copyrightwarning2, so people can just click on them while they edit. (e.g. <charinsert>ä</charinsert>). It requires an administrator to change things in the mediawiki namespace. Does that sound good to you? I made an example User:Aquatiki/copyrightwarning2 --Aquatiki 13:17, 24 January 2011 (UTC)

It looks like someone added this for you. Is it using yours? (Ochristi did this, maybe? None of the expected special pages I can find so far seem to have this.) It would be useful to have in the insertion banner the glottal stop symbol as well as the IPA accent mark. — Wm.annis 00:47, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
OC did it for me. As a non-admin, I don't have the power to alter that page. (Mediawiki:edittools) --Eltu Lefngap Makto 00:49, 4 February 2011 (UTC)

Ooh, that makes it easier to hit the accent mark. It just occurred to me we're missing the /ts/ ligature. For style hangups: could you capitalize "Diacritics"? ;) — Wm.annis 14:44, 4 February 2011 (UTC)
